The Mess Is Coming

Posted: Tue 10:54 PM, Dec 14, 2010

No matter how I look at it... a mess is coming for the folks in KY!

First things first... Here is a graphic of total snowfall for our region. Courtesy the NWS Jackson

Now let's look to the future. This next system has already sparked a Winter Storm Warning & a Winter Weather Advisory.

Winter Storm Warning

 Winter Weather Advisory

So how will this hit us?

That's the simple rundown. Here are some model runs and how each dipicts the system as it comes into the region.

GFS 10pm Weds                 GFS 1am Thurs                       GFS 4am Thurs                  GFS 7am Thurs                        GFS 1pm Thurs

NAM 1am Thurs            NAM 4am Thurs              NAM 7am Thurs              NAM 10am Thurs          NAM 1pm Thurs

The GFS is wetter and it is quicker. The snow arrival is is earlier and the change over happens a touch earlier as well. Both are right on target with the icing potential. So I have put together an updated map showing what is what!

I think there might have been some confusion about this graphic earlier. What I am higlighting here is "BEST CHANCE" meaning these areas will more likely see this type of precip for a longer period of time.
