Brodway live announces new season
Posted: 05/23/2013 - A little bit of Broadway came to downtown Lexington tonight.
Thanks for all of your kind words in the comments section! I truly appreciate all of you guys! Last year was a personal record for the blog and now we need to follow up with another. I'm kicking it into high gear from this point on and I will try to get 2-3 updates per day out for you guys.
The Wednesday moisture looked like it would stay far enough south that we wouldn't have to deal with anything from that system. As the new data started coming in... I started changing my mind. I think accumulating snow is a great possibility! This all gets started on Wednesday night. It's the beginning of a potential Triple Threat!
Part 1
A system will cruise across the deep south and spread moisture into southern parts of KY on Wednesday night.
NAM 1am Thursday

NAM 4am Thursday

NAM 7am Thursday

Remember that the pink indicates snow. Snow hangs around for a little while and then moves out of town.
Now let's review the GFS during the same timeframe. What you won't see is the GFS pushing the moisture into east KY earlier than the NAM. So not exactly agreeing on timing... but still very close! Ultimately, the GFS starts slinging snow on Wednesday night between 8pm & 11pm.
GFS 1am Thursday

GFS 4am Thursday

GFS 7am Thursday

Very light amounts expected with this first round. This could go either way depending on moisture penetration into KY. I have put together a first call map that could be modified by Wednesday afternoon. I'll wait for more data tonight before I make it official. I'm not worried about totals... is the northern intrusion that is beating me to death.

Part 2
The second round will be right on the heels of the system I have been talking about above. It dives in from the northwest and brings snow and some pretty cold temps all over the place. It has the potential to lay a couple up to a few inches in southern and eastern Kentucky. I'll put together a First Call map for the second round on Wednesday.
You can see the enrgy as it dives in from the NW on the data below.
GFS 7am Friday NAM 7am Friday

GFS 1pm Friday NAM 1pm Friday

The energy gets in and out pretty quickly and will likely lay some decent snowfall in the area. Without drawing up a map... I'd say anywhere from 2"-5" could be possible. That's not a forecast... just a good thought! I'll start applying that to a map on Wednesday. Snow lingers in Kentucky through Saturday with this round.
Part 3
One of the big bad storms begins to roll towards us on Sunday night. This has speculation written all over it! It will be one that will have me going back and forth with over the next several days. It is popping up everywhere that it needs to though. Now nailing down the track and sub developments will be the fun part. Or maybe... it will just disappear? LOL... not this winter!
GFS Jan 9th EURO Jan 9th

The track will mean everything! GFS has the rain/snow line right over KY. The EURO looks snowy! We'll keep watching this and I'll update again on Wednesday!
