Now is the time for 211. The United Way of the Bluegrass has established an emergency call number. 2-1-1 provides 24/7 access for people in need of social service support. I have served as a chair for the United Way Campaign of Central Kentucky for the past year and I am witnessing firsthand the tremendous need for personal, financial, and social services. 2-1-1 is a lifeline, a systematic way to connect people to essential community resources.

An emergency hotline however isn’t enough; everyone needs to do their part to make sure that people in our community are taken care of. The United Way theme this year is Live United. Central Kentucky needs to come together as a community to support our neighbors. In these troubling times, you may be called on to help someone in need. In the past three weeks I have heard from three individuals who have lost their jobs, homes, and are near the end of their financial rope. It’s time for all of us to step up.

What is your story? Are you in need of help? Are you someone else’s 211?
