Weekly Address: President Obama Focuses on the Economy … GOP Blast Democrats Health Care Proposals

Pesident Obama, citing a new government report, is sounding a little more upbeat about the economy. Meanwhile, Republicans are blasting the Democrats health care proposals. You can listen to the debate here.

President Obama is sounding a little more upbeat about the economy.  The President cites Friday’s Commerce Department Report showing that in the last few months the economy overall has done “measurably better than expected.” He credits his $7876 billion economic stimulus program for much of that progress.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, the President says success depends on building a new, stronger foundation and recapturing the “spirit of innovation.”

Republicans are gearing up for a September showdown over health care reform.  The House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 31-28 late Friday in favor of a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. health care system.  Today Republicans blasted the Democrats health care proposals as a “dangerous and costly experiment.”

In the GOP radio and Internet address, Sen. John Thune of South Dakota says the current proposals do not improve health because it would force millions of Americans with employer-based coverage into a government run system.

Are you in favor of the proposed health care reforms?  Let me know what you think.

I’m trying to catch up after a few days vacation.  It’s amazing how much can happen in Kentucky politics in just one week.
