Storm Looms on Political Horizon in Laurel County

Retired Major General Donald Storm is considering a run next year for Laurel County Judge Executive. Storm tells Mountain News he plans to make a decision within the next three to four weeks.

Retired Major General Donald Storm is considering a run next year for Laurel County Judge Executive.  Storm tells Mountain News he plans to make a decision within the next three to four weeks.  The Laurel County Republican Party is encouraging Storm to throw his hat into the political ring.

This story first broke when Laurel County GOP Chair Bryan Mills posted this on his Facebook status: “I had a three hour meeting with General Donald Storm this evening to discuss his possible run for Laurel County Judge Executive.  He would be excellent candidate; he told me that his final decision would be made in the next four weeks.”

Storm is a Laurel County native and a 1965 graduate of Lily High School.  He currently lives in Elizabethtown and works in the family business in Laurel County, Storm Security.  Storm says he plans to return to Laurel County regardless of his political decision.

Mills says he checked with the Secretary of State’s office and Storm has until the first of November to become a resident of Laurel County in order to run for office in 2010.  Storm says his priorities are “jobs and fiscal conservatism.”  He would likely face Democrat incumbent Lawrence Kuhl.

The Retired Major General spent 38 years in the military.  Most of that time was with the Kentucky National Guard.  He served in Vietnam and was appointed as the 51st Adjutant General of the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 2003.  He retired last year.
