This week we came dangerously close to having a major terrorist attack on American soil. Today 5th District Congressman Hal Rogers issued a stern warning to lawmakers regarding funding for Homeland Security.

This week we came dangerously close to having a major terrorist attack on American soil.  FBI  agents uncovered two unrelated terror plots in Texas and Illinois.

Monday, counter terrorism officials issued a flurry of security alerts for transit, stadiums and hotel targets.  The warnings followed an investigation into another bomb plot that originated in Denver.  Federal agents say that plot may have targets in the New York region.

Former National Security advisor Richard Clark told CBN News, “I think this is as close as we've come since 9/11 to having a major terrorist attack on U.S. Territory."

Here in Kentucky, UK officials are stepping up security at Commonwealth Stadium for Saturday’s game against Florida.  UK officials are asking fans to leave all bags at home, if possible.  If you do have to bring a bag, show up early, because officials say security must
now check every bag.

Today 5th District Congressman Hal Rogers issued a stern warning to lawmakers regarding funding for Homeland Security.

(AP) U.S. Congressman Harold "Hal" Rogers is urging his fellow lawmakers to get back to work on the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill that would fund safeguards against terrorist attacks against U.S. interests, including Department of Energy facilities in Oak Ridge, TVA facilities, nuclear power plants and entertainment venues like Commonwealth Stadium.

During a speech on the House floor Friday, the Republican from Kentucky's Fifth District said he was, in his words, "very concerned" that a compromise between the House and Senate versions of the bill has not been reached.

Rogers says lawmakers have instead given priority to Congress' own budget.

He called the situation a "sad state of affairs" and said Congress should "demand that instead of first paying ourselves ... we complete our work on this vital security spending bill."

Rogers is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and a ranking member and former chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security. He is serving his 15th term in Congress.

FBI Agents Uncover Unrelated Bomb Plots

For years, Americans have been warned that the next terror attack may come from our own backyard. The events of the past few weeks are a reminder of that threat as federal agents pursued terror plots in four states.

Federal agents issued a sobering find.

"I think this is as close as we've come since 9/11 to having a major terrorist attack on U.S. Territory," explained Richard Clark, former National Security adviser.

In Denver, federal officials have filed documents claiming apparent al Qaeda ringleader, Najibullah Zazi, planned to bomb several New York sites using bombs made with beauty products, which are widely available. These are the same types of bombs used in the deadly 2005 train bombings in London.

Two Men in Custody in Separate Texas, Illinois Terror Car Bomb Plots

A Jordanian man living outside Dallas and an ex-convict who wrote letters to John Walker Lindh were in custody on Friday after each tried to blow up what they thought were vehicles packed with explosives outside a Texas skyscraper and an Illinois courthouse, authorities said.

The two cases are unconnected to each other and to the investigation that set off the most intense flurry of national terrorism warnings since the aftermath of Sept. 11, authorities said.
