A new Rasmussen Reports poll shows Kentucky is shaping up as a battleground state in next year’s U.S. Senate race.
If the election were held today, the poll shows Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo might lose to either of the two Republican frontrunners. Secretary of State Trey Grayson leads Mongiardo by seven points. Rand Paul has a five point lead over the Lieutenant Governor.
Democrat Jack Conway fairs much better against the Republicans but he would still be in a dog fight. Conway is tied with Grayson at 40 percent each. The Attorney General holds a slim four point lead over Rand Paul.
The poll also puts Mongiardo’s unfavorable rating two points higher than his favorable rating. Mongiardo’s unfavorable rating is at 43 percent. His favorable rating is 41 percent.
The automated telephone poll of 500 likely voters was conducted on September 30th. That was just as news was leaking out about recordings that appear to reveal Mongiardo criticizing Governor Steve Beshear. The Governor has endorsed Mongiardo’s Senate campaign.
The poll has a margin of error of 4.5 percent.
