Governor Steve Beshear’s administration is singing a different tune today. The tall, decorated tree on the Capitol’s front lawn will now be called a “Christmas” tree after all.

O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
How richly God has decked thee!
Thou bidst us true and faithful be,
And trust in God unchangingly.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!

- Christmas Carol

Governor Steve Beshear’s administration is singing a different tune today. The tall, decorated tree on the Capitol’s front lawn will now be called a “Christmas” tree after all.

Last week the Governor’s administration sparked a storm of controversy when it referred to the tree as “holiday” tree. A Beshear spokesperson says the Governor’s office was flooded with calls and emails about the name change.

This is just the latest chapter in the on-going Christmas debate. Several retailers, including Wal Mart, have returned to greeting customers with “Merry Christmas” after coming under attack for directing employees to say “Happy Holidays."

We talked with the Governor and a minister about the controversy.

Pastor Jeff Fugate says they are still planning a “Take Christmas Back” rally at the Capitol December 7th. He says they plan to sing Christmas carols at the rally.

Do you find the use of “holiday” rather than “Christmas” offensive? Let me know your thoughts.
