Congressman Hal Rogers calls the President’s homeland security budget proposal “dangerous and indefensible”.

Rogers is the ranking Republican on the House Appropriations Committee’s homeland security subcommittee.  He says the President has “all but guaranteed his homeland security budget dead on arrival.”

Here is a statement Congressman Rogers released earlier this week.

Every day our nation is under attack. Whether it is a terrorist attempting to blow up a plane, a vicious drug lord raging war along our border, or a foreign national trying to hack into our national security systems, we face persistent threats that are only increasing. Despite these glaring facts, the Administration has put forward an alarming and self centered budget that is woefully lacking in many critical areas.  Whether its slashing critical research, reducing our presence on the border, cutting the ranks of our brave Coast Guard personnel, or providing a $200 million slush fund to house terrorists on American soil, this budget submission is as dangerous as it is indefensible.

“We've been down this road before.  By cutting major operational assets while at the same time providing significant increases for the secretary's personal office and staff, the President has all but guaranteed his homeland security budget dead on arrival.”
