President Barack Obama says he'll fight hard for campaign finance measures to restrict political advertising by corporations and unions.
(AP) President Barack Obama says it's about the "integrity of our democracy" as he urges swift action by Congress on measures to restrict political advertising by corporations and labor unions.
Legislation introduced this week would require that corporations and unions identify themselves in their paid political ads and that the chief executive or other top official state that "I approve this message."
The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in January that these groups have a First Amendment right to spend money on campaign ads, thus enhancing their ability to influence federal elections.
Obama says in his weekly radio and Internet address that quick action is needed to ensure that the voices of the American people aren't drowned out by deep-pocketed corporations and other special interests.
The President said he would fight to see that campaign reform becomes law.
