Sunday’s Extras: The first woman in your life
Here's another one from my archives I thought you might enjoy. The message in my Mother’s Day card compares a mother’s love to a cherished quilt that “surrounds her child with warmth, gentleness and a special beauty that becomes more treasured through the years.”
Sunday, we celebrate one of the most powerful forces ever known to man – a mother’s love.
The message in my Mother’s Day card compares a mother’s love to a cherished quilt that “surrounds her child with warmth, gentleness and a special beauty that becomes more treasured through the years.”
I think that sums it up perfectly.
As a child, we always felt safest in the warmth of our mother’s arms. She loved us from the time we were in her womb, through the scraped knees and elbows to the pains of adulthood. A mother’s love is always there.
She always knows what to say at just the right time. A mother knows our heart. There is an old Jewish Proverb that says, “A mother understands what a child does not say.”
But Abraham Lincoln might have said it best.
“I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.”
In honor of my mom and moms everywhere, I want to share two songs with you this Mother’s Day.

A wise woman, not my mom, once told me that Mother’s Day should be every day. It’s not so much how we treat our mom or wife on this special day, what matters is how we treat them the other 364 days of the year. Today is special, but tomorrow is where real love shines through.

I found this Mother’s Day message by Dr. Charles Stanley.
"It is one thing to say you love your mother. But it’s another to honor and care for her. Even as He hung on the cross, Jesus was concerned about His mother and made provision for her care (John 19:26-27). Are you treating your mom with the same kind of love and respect? Even if she lives far away or is no longer alive, your lifestyle and how you talk about your mother clearly reveal your attitude toward her."
When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. (NIV)
