Sunday, we celebrate one of the most powerful forces ever known to man – a mother’s love.
The message in my Mother’s Day card compares a mother’s love to a cherished quilt that “surrounds her child with warmth, gentleness and a special beauty that becomes more treasured through the years.”
I think that sums it up perfectly.

As a child, we always felt safest in the warmth of our mother’s arms. She loved us from the time we were in her womb, through the scraped knees and elbows to the pains of adulthood. A mother’s love is always there.
She always knows what to say at just the right time. A mother knows our heart. There is an old Jewish Proverb that says, “A mother understands what a child does not say.”
But Abraham Lincoln might have said it best.
“I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.”
In honor of my mom and moms everywhere, I want to share two songs with you this Mother’s Day.
First Woman – Dennis Jamison
Unafraid – Amy Grant
A wise woman, not my mom, once told me that Mother’s Day should be every day. It’s not so much how we treat our mom or wife on this special day, what matters is how we treat them the other 364 days of the year. Today is special, but tomorrow is where real love shines through.
Here are the lyrics for my hearing impaired friends.
First Woman – Dennis Jamison
She was there when you drew your first breath
She was there to give your first bath
And when you’d cry out at night … she was there
When you learned to walk … she held your hand
When you learned to talk … you said her name
And when you learned of God … she helped you understand.
She was the first woman in your life
And you learned to call her mother
She would hold you when you’d cry
She always had the greatest shoulder
She knew your every sigh … by the look in your eye
She was the first woman in your life
She was there at graduation day
She was there when you learned to pray
And when you would need a friend … she was there
She was there to hear your wedding vows
She saw you grow so fast and wondered how
And still when you needed her … she was there
She was the first woman in your life
And you learned to call her mother
She would hold you when you’d cry
She always had the greatest shoulder
She knew your every sigh … by the look in your eye
She was the first woman in your life
She was the first woman in your life
And you learned to call her mother
She would hold you when you’d cry
She always had the greatest shoulder
She knew your every sigh … by the look in your eye
She was the first woman in your life
Unafraid – Amy Grant
Woke up this morning
with you in our bed
going over and over
everything you said
Who talk you how to speak
the words that you say
I've always wanted to
be talked to that way
Love has made
has made you unafraid
Watching my children
finding their way
thru struggles and triumphs
and heartbreak
I hope the roads they take
Are making them strong
I'll still be on my knees
Long after they're gone
Love has made
Love has made
Love has made
Has made me unafraid
My lovely mother
Is getting on in years
And the way her body's aging
brings her girls to tears
The way she trembles with
each effort she makes
She just says Heaven's
getting closer each day
Love has made
Love has made
Love has made
Has made her unafraid
Love could make
Love can make
Love will make
Make you unafraid...

I found this Mother’s Day message by Dr. Charles Stanley.
When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. (NIV)

Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous; is not proud; is not conceited; does not act foolishly; is not selfish; is not easily provoked to anger; keeps no record of wrongs; takes no pleasure in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. - I Corinthians 13:4-7.
