Trey Grayson picked up the endorsement of the Conservatives of America. Meanwhile, Rand Paul picked up the endorsement of a prominent Republican fund-raiser, former Ambassador Cathy Bailey.

Trey Grayson picked up the endorsement of the Conservatives of America.  The group was inspired by Ronald Reagan and promotes conservative principles like smaller government, lower taxes and greater fiscal responsibility.

In a news release Conservatives of America calls Rand Paul’s views on the War on Terror the deciding factor.

“The issue that underscores the difference between Trey Grayson and his opponent most is the war on terror. Unlike his opponent, Trey Grayson understands the importance of keeping Guantanamo Bay open and the need to remain on the offense in the “War on Terror”… and not allowing Al Qaeda terrorists to return back to the battlefield. There is a reason that former Vice President Dick Cheney has gotten involved in the Kentucky Senate race and endorsed Trey Grayson. Vice President Cheney understands that this is not the time to send another supporter of the Obama Administration’s foreign policy to the U.S. Senate. Now is the time for real conservatives in Kentucky to rally behind Trey Grayson.”

The group has also endorsed three other conservative candidates in this year’s U.S. Senate races: Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Marco Rubio of Florida, JD Hayworth of Arizona.

Grayson also picked up endorsements from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the 60 Plus Association.

Rand Paul picked up the endorsement of Cathy Bailey.  The prominent Republican fund-raiser from Louisville also served as a U.S. ambassador to Latvia.  At one time she was considering a run for the U.S. Senate.

In a news release, Bailey called Paul a “true conservative” that “will not participate in the business-as-usual culture of Washington D.C.”

Here are the releases issued by the Grayson and Paul campaigns.

Conservatives of America Endorses Trey Grayson

Conservatives of America today officially endorsed Trey Grayson for election to the U.S. Senate in Kentucky.

“Trey Grayson is a solid conservative who has cut spending in state government, is in opposition to cap-and-trade, is 100% pro-life, is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and is a strong supporter of securing America’s borders,” said Bill Murphy, Founder of Conservatives of America. “In addition, Trey Grayson helped write the Kentucky state law which kept ACORN out of Kentucky!”

Conservatives of America has endorsed three strong conservative candidates for the U.S. Senate in 2010: Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Marco Rubio of Florida, JD Hayworth of Arizona.

Conservatives of America is a national, grassroots conservative organization dedicated to: reducing the size of government, lowering taxes, promoting fiscal sanity, protecting the Right to Life for the Unborn, preserving the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, having a strong national defense, staying on the offense in the “War on Terror,” and securing America’s borders. Recently, Conservatives of America has emerged as America’s leading conservative organization dedicated to training grassroots conservative activists and the conservative movement.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Endorses Trey Grayson

Florence, Kentucky – Kentucky Secretary of State and Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Trey Grayson began a Kentucky First tour across the Commonwealth today during the final week of campaigning before the May 18th Republican primary. The tour includes 38 stops in 30 counties from today through Monday, May 17th.

Campaigning in Ashland, Kentucky, this morning, Trey Grayson commented on his candidacy being endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“I’m grateful to have the support of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its members who share my agenda. I’m running for U.S. Senate, because I’m fed up with the Obama agenda of more government, out-of-control spending, increased deficits and job-killing policies. If I’m elected I will fight for a balanced budget and economic policies that will free small businesses and entrepreneurs to expand their businesses, innovate and create jobs,” said Grayson. “I will always put Kentucky first and fight for our priorities, including working to reduce the burdensome national debt that threatens our economic well being now and for future generations.”

In the endorsement, U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donohue wrote to Grayson,

“It is the Chamber’s goal to help elect a pro-business Congress and work diligently in the interests of businesses large and small to advance legislation that encourages economic growth, job creation and a less intrusive federal government. Your support of pro-business issues earned this endorsement.”

60 Plus Association Endorses Trey Grayson

Music Legend Pat Boone Sings Praises of Trey Grayson

Alexandria, VA – Legendary entertainer Pat Boone, spokesman for a national non-partisan senior citizen group, announced today that Trey Grayson has won the Association’s Honorary Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award. Grayson is running for the seat of retiring U.S. Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY).

Boone, still performing at concerts, was a recording, movie and TV star second to none in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Boone called Grayson a “fighter for the elderly.”

The 60 Plus Association’s Guardian Award is presented to Democrats and Republicans in Congress based on their “senior friendly” voting records. The Honorary Award is given to those running for office and is based on their views on seniors’ issues.

“Trey Grayson can always be counted on to protect Social Security and Medicare,” Boone said. Boone also cited Grayson’s pledge to work to repeal the Estate Tax or ‘Death Tax’ which hurts small businesses and farmers across Kentucky and the country.

In a statement Boone continued “Trey Grayson will be a tax cutter, protecting the pocket books of senior citizens. 60 Plus calls on nearly 5.5 million seniors nationally for support, including nearly 130,000 seniors in the Bluegrass State, so I believe I can speak on behalf of seniors when I say that they can count on Trey Grayson. Clearly, seniors will have no finer friend in the U.S. Senate than Trey Grayson.”

Previous award winners include both Kentucky Republican Senators, Mitch McConnell and Jim Bunning, as well as Kentucky Republican Reps. Harold Rogers, Ed Whitfield, Geoff Davis, and Brett Guthrie, also including Democrats, Senator Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico and Rep. Sanford Bishop of Georgia, the latter a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Boone’s wife of 55 years, Shirley, is the daughter of Red Foley, a Grand Ole Opry headliner who had the first platinum record in the 1940’s, Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy. Boone had 38 top ten hits over a 50 – year career spanning music, movies, and television.

Cathy Bailey Supports Rand Paul

Ambassador Cathy Bailey issued the following statement regarding her support of Rand Paul:

“I have consistently said that I wanted the Republican Party of Kentucky to nominate a true conservative to replace Senator Jim Bunning in Washington D.C. Like many people, I was originally told things about Rand Paul’s views that turned out to be false. The truth is Rand Paul is a true conservative and he will not participate in the business-as-usual culture of Washington D.C. I am confident that he will stand up for fiscal discipline, just as Senator Bunning has done time and again.”

“As a former U.S. Ambassador, one of the most important issues to me is foreign policy. After talking with Rand Paul I am persuaded that he has the judgment and conservative values to make sound foreign policy decisions as a member of the U.S. Senate.”

“The bottom line for me came in deciding which of these two candidates is strong enough and conservative enough to truly stand against President Obama’s liberal agenda, which is pushing the United States down a treacherous path on many fronts. After taking everything into consideration, I, like many other Kentucky Republicans, came to the conclusion that we need Rand Paul in Washington D.C. He is the right man at the right time for Kentucky and for the U.S. Senate.”
