Health care law one year later: Future still in doubt

Wednesday marks the first anniversary of President Barack Obama’s health-care reform bill.

Republicans and Democrats will mark the anniversary in much different ways.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi began the celebration almost two weeks ago.

“This is a very special month for use because one year ago we passed the historic Affordable Health Care Act, which has made a difference in the lives of the American people.”

The President will return from Latin America on the signing anniversary tomorrow, and administration officials will fan out across the country to celebrate the anniversary with almost 200 events.

Meanwhile Republicans are marking the anniversary with calls to repeal the legislation, which is being challenged in court by 26 states.

Last week Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell offered what writer called, “a not-so-happy birthday greeting” for the health care reform law.

“Wednesday marks the one-year anniversary since the Democrat health-care reform bill was signed into law.    The fog of controversy may have lifted. But contrary to the confident predictions of some, the contents of the health-care bill are even worse than anyone expected.  A year after Democrats passed it on a party-line vote, it looks even worse than it did before.”
