Some parts of the country are already paying nearly $4 a gallong. The average price in Kentucky is $3.51 a gallon.
McConnell's remarks come just one day after the Kentucky Senator filed an amendment to stop the Environmental Protection Agency from filing new regulations on Carbon Emissions. McConnell calls the regulations a “back-door national energy tax.”
During a speech on the Senator floor, McConnell called on Congress to “unlock” our nation’s oil reserves.
“Just to give you an idea of the kind of resources we have right here at home, consider that just one 2,000-acre section of the non-wilderness sections of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, along with the Chukchi and Beaufort seas, have enough recoverable oil to replace crude imports from the Persian Gulf for nearly 65 years. So the problem isn’t that we need to look elsewhere for our energy. The problem is that Democrats in Washington won’t let us use it.
