Beverage group: 18 mayors wrong on sugary drinks
Posted: 11:47 PM - The American Beverage Association says efforts by the mayors of 18 cities to stop food stamps from being used to buy sugary drinks won't make the nation healthier.
(AP) NBC has apologized for editing the words “under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance before Sunday’s U.S. Open broadcast, but some Christian groups are demanding a fuller explanation.

The network opened its broadcast of the final round of the golf tournament with a montage that included children reciting the pledge, but the words “under God” and “indivisible” were omitted, not once but twice.
Three hours later, announcer Dan Hicks told viewers, “regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out.”
He added, “We’d like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.”
NBC Sports also issued a written apology the next day concerning the incident, calling it a “bad decision.”
Reverend Patrick Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition calls that “a pathetic apology” for what he believes was an intentional omission.
Jordan Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice said the apology was “too little, too late.”
The ACLJ sent a letter of protest to the both the network and the U.S. Golf Association and has also organized a public letter to “protect the Pledge.”

“NBC crossed a troubling line and offended millions of Americans by cutting the phrase ‘under God’ from the Pledge of Allegiance. The phrase ‘under God’ is not a throw-away line, an afterthought,” said Jordan Sekulow, the ACLJ’s Policy Director.
