Lawmakers have turned out the lights on Capitol Hill until after the election. The Senate did send President Obama a stopgap-spending bill to keep the government from shutting down.
When Congress does return, lawmakers will have a crowded to-do list, topped by avoiding what’s become known as the fiscal cliff – automatic spending cuts and the expiration of Bush era tax cuts.
In his weekly address, President Obama accused Congress of being more worried about their jobs than their constituents.
“Last week, without much fanfare, member of the House or Representatives banged a gavel, turned out the lights, and rushed home, declaring their work was finished for now. If that frustrates you, it should, because their work isn’t finished.”
