Vice President Joe Biden is giving credits the Obama administration for the resurgent U.S. auto industry.
Subbing for a traveling President Barack Obama in the weekly radio and Internet address, Biden says the industry recovered from "the brink of extinction" and points to Chrysler's early repayment of federal loans.
Biden noted the Chrysler repayment came six years ahead of schedule and also said GM's Detroit Hamtramck factory in Michigan will run three shifts for the first time in its 26-year history.
Biden says, "that's 2,500 more good, paying jobs."
Biden says "because of what we did, the auto industry is rising again."
