It’s been awhile since I last blogged.   Our newest feline addition, Leia Tiberius (yes, science fiction fans heard some familiar names there) just turned one and is, by lack of a better explanation, a furry electron.   She is in constant motion pouncing, jumping, flipping, and pretty much owning anything she can get her paws on.   What makes it so funny is that she is about a half of the size of our other two cats but is easily four times as fast…which isn’t tough since Maynard and Harry are as mobile as a oil rig.   Watching her “play” with the big guys reminds me of those National Geography documentaries where they show a cheetah take down a herd of wildebeest.   Looking at the physics going in, it doesn’t make sense.   Once you see the stalk and attack, Maynard and Harry fold like a finished napkin.
The whole reason to bring all this up is to point out how wonderful The Humane Society organization (and people at the Lexington Humane Society like Madison, Whitney, Carrie to name a few) as well as other legitimate animal shelters are.  My wife D’Arcy and I have been volunteering at the Lexington Humane Society for a year and a half now.   It’s been so rewarding for us (and hopefully for the animals too!).
Whether you are thinking of adding an additional four-legged friend to your home or simply enjoy animals, stop by an area shelter to visit.   Even if you are not interested in getting an animal, you can always show some love and support to these homeless pets by coming into the shelter and offer a hand just show some attention to these guys.
Trust me, after a draining day at work, it feels so great to visit a homeless cat or dog and give it some much needed attention.   By the end of it, I always seem to be the one who “needed” the attention.
