“Spock, Beam me up!” – Bluetooth Ear Buds

I have made fun of people with Bluetooth ear buds for years. My brother Eddie has had one stuck in the side of his head for as far back as I can remember. We will be driving down the road he will tap his earpiece and start talking. I see people walking around with these things in their ears and I think they look so stupid.

I have made fun of people with Bluetooth ear buds for years.  My brother Eddie has had one stuck in the side of his head for as far back as I can remember.  We will be driving down the road he will tap his earpiece and start talking.  I see people walking around with these things in their ears and I think they look so stupid.  So here is where I have to eat my words.  Yes I have purchased Bluetooth ear bud.  What does this mean?  It means that now I am one of the people that non-bluetoothers make fun of.  I am OK with that and I have fought it tooth and nail to not get one.

Here is why I now have a Bluetooth ear bud.  I spend a lot of time in my car traveling between locations and I utilize that time to talk on the phone.  Can you say wreck waiting to happen?  I fumble around on my Blackberry doing things that I should be pulled over for and I am surprised that I have not been in any accidents.  Recently I almost rear-ended someone and as I wrenched my hands away from the steering wheel with the smell burnt tire wafting across my nose from coming to a screeching halt, I started thinking is getting myself killed worth the time I save reading emails and talking on the phone?  As my heart rate reduced I had to think what the hell just happened.  I WAS FOCUSED ON MY CELL PHONE.   The more I thought about this instance in the coming days I came to realize that I had more close calls recently than I wanted to admit and they were all cell phone related.  So what was I going to do about it, change my habits.

I knew I would continue to talk on the phone and I knew of only one way to have both hands available and that was getting a headset.  Even though the phone came with a wired ear bud I thought it was time to EAT MY WORDS and try a Bluetooth set.  So being the person who always buys the best (that is a direct quote from the wife) I purchased the latest version of the Jawbone.  So far I have been extremely pleased with the performance of the Jawbone.  Here are a couple things that I have found; I like to run my air conditioning in my car on full all the time and I have to point all the vents up because if any air is blowing directly on the Jawbone the person on the other end of the conversation  hears a lot of static noise.  The other issue I have is that I have to charge the device a lot.  These are the only real issues that I have, other than that I have found the simplicity and design of the Jawbone to be the best on the market.

Now that I have joined the Spock convention I have one rule of thumb; I mainly wear it in the car.  This way I look like I am talking to myself and I only look crazy.  I have found myself walking around a store forgetting that I had left it in; I will immediately take it out and put it in my pocket.  If you’re looking at purchasing a Bluetooth ear bud I would highly recommend the “NEW” Jawbone.  Tell me about your Bluetooth device(s) and I would love to hear your stories.
