Have you received an email that you have to scroll down for about ten minutes to get to the actual heart of the email? How frustrating is that! The email has been forwarded about hundred times. You know the one I am talking about and the email was so good that you forwarded it along with all of the other email addresses.

Have you received an email that you have to scroll down for about ten minutes to get to the actual heart of the email? How frustrating is that! The email has been forwarded about hundred times. You know the one I am talking about and the email was so good that you forwarded it along with all of the other email addresses. What about the chain emails asking you to send this to ten people? Or have you received emails trying to make you feel guilty if you don’t forward the email onto friends. They question your patriotism if you don’t forward. Let me start by saying that I am tired of getting emails with everyone’s address on them and I HATE when my email address is forwarded. The only reason my email needs to be forwarded is because of business. I used to be guilty of this but I want to start a campaign that ends email addresses being forwarded.

Let’s talk about why it’s bad to forward email addresses. Have you ever wondered how your email address got on a distribution list for something you never subscribed to? The reason is that spammers love getting emails with hundreds and thousands of email addresses. Why, because they can stripe them out and add you to the proverbial Viagra email list. I always kid and say my wife has added me to the list but the reality is that my email has been forwarded and captured by someone who isn’t concerned that I don’t want to be on the distribution list. I am always leery of signing up for something because I am concerned that my email address will be distributed and I will end up on some email list that I don’t want to be on. If you are concerned read the privacy policy on the web site you are signing up on. Here on our site we do not share email addresses.

So I am starting this campaign today. Any emails that are not business related I am going to add the following to the subject line; **DO NOT FORWARD MY EMAIL ADDRESS!**. At the bottom of the email I will have a small description of why I don’t want my email address forwarded: “Due to spammers illegally capturing email addresses I respectfully request that you remove my address if you choose to forward this email. Every email that I forward has all of the email addresses stripped prior to forwarding. Please do the same with my email address.” Why only non-business related emails? Because these are the ones that are links to videos, jokes and other entertainment items that I send to family and friends. If they are good they will distributed to the four corners of our land fairly quickly. It is how social marketing works, I share something with 10 friends who share with 10 of their friends who share with 10 of their friends. What started with my email address being distributed 10 times has now blossomed into 1,000 times. See how quickly this can grow. All business related emails I want to be able to forward the email address because everyone who is involved needs to know who is participating in the email. Here is the funniest part, it isn’t that hard to remove the email addresses before the email is sent. If it was laborious process then I would say that this campaign doesn’t have shot in h@#$.

It sounds simple and I hope it catches on because I want to put a stop to having to scroll through thousands of email addresses and my email address being forwarded. You need to tell 10 friends who will tell ten friends who will tell 10 friends….. you get the point! Let me know your thoughts on this matter.
