2009 and my predictions!
Fifteen days into the New Year and I am just now getting back to writing my BLOG. So far 2009 has been a whirl wind of activity. So I thought I would start this year off with my predictions. If you listen to the national news we are in the tank, the only thing left is to through the dirt over us and put a headstone up. Don’t get me wrong I understand we aren’t doing as well have in the recent past. Yes, certain industries are down, automotive, restaurants and plenty of others. The key to our problem is uncertainty; as long as the consumer confidence is low, spending will be restricted. Go back to the Econ 101 and the “invisible hand” of the market. Once consumer confidence goes back up, and people feel certain that they will have a job in the coming year the economy will get back on track. A lot of people are sitting on the sideline, not me. Right now is the time to buy the things that you have been wanting. The prices for products are as cheap as I have seen them in years.
I am going to get the people who read this say I am crazy. They will tell me to look at the unemployment. OK, let’s look at unemployment. My sphere of influence is Kentucky and that is what is affecting me, so unemployment is at 6% in Kentucky. So I say that means 94% of eligible workers in Kentucky are working. I love those odds; even the most risk averse people should love these odds. Let’s say unemployment goes to 10%, I still like the fact that 90% of the population is still working. People have to buy goods to survive; even the unemployed will have access to Government assistance to buy goods. You can see that I am a “glass is half full” guy.
Ultimately it comes down to this, I can only control a few things; how I treat others around me, the speed I drive my car, daily decisions and my attitude. My attitude is that as long as I am up and kicking around on the big rock(earth) life is good. For those who are affected by the down turn in the economy I feel for you and know that we will get through this. This is America and I am truly fortunate to be an American. I know that we as a country will figure this out and move on. For those who want to keep pushing the negative and life is bad, I say this generation of Americans hasn’t witnessed bad. Our grandparents went through the depression and they understand sacrifice and they survived. Take stock of your life, your family and find the positive things in your life.
Now that I am done with my rant here are my predictions for 2009:
1) Gas will stay below $2 through 2009
2) The DTV transition will happen as planned, February 17th
3) The HOT electronic item will be HD TV’s
4) The purchase of Mobile Media devices, iPhones, Blackberry’s will grow exponentially
5) Americans will save more money in the next five years, than they have in the last twenty five years
6) I will lose twenty pounds!
So these are fairly safe predictions except for number six. I would love to hear some of your predictions and your feedback on what I have to say. Comment below or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
