Hi I’m Tim and I am a twitter-aholic! That will be the meeting I will have to attend if I don’t stop checking for updates. For those of you who have not started twittering be careful. I want to warn you, because once you start, it will become addictive. My life can now be summed up in 140 characters or less. Follow me on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/timcoles and see how mundane my life is.
So what do I like about using Twitter. It is easy, it is simple, and it is fast. My day is busy and it allows me to see an overview of stories and what is going on with friends and family. If I want, I can read a full article if the story intrigues me. I have gotten to the point that I have been doing most if my Twittering on my phone. This has made my laptop my primary business tool and the iPhone is both personal and professional. I Twitter everywhere. No matter if you use a Blackberry or an iPhone going mobile will simplify connecting you to your social media. I have gotten to the point that I am feeding both Twitter and Facebook from an App called Vlingo on my iPhone. If anyone has an App for the iPhone that will help feed multiple social websites please let me know.
I found this BLOG about the “Top Ten Twitter Tips”( http://chep2m.wordpress.com/2008/05/08/ten-top-twitter-tips/ ) and it has a lot to say about Twittering. It will help you get started Twittering if you haven’t started already. My two favorite tips are “Go Mobile” and “Enjoy”. When Twitter first started gaining popularity I looked at micro blogging and wondered how it could be used. I found that by going mobile that I am enjoying following tweets more. As stated it is fast and simple, no more than 140 characters. My favorite person to follow is UK coach John Calipari (http://twitter.com/UKCoachCalipari). As of today he has over 96,000 people following him. Coach will tweet multiple times each day. He starts off with some words of wisdom, then he will update about what is happening to him throughout the day. I know I sound like a stalker but its cool to hear about him having lunch or dinner with local and national celebrities. I Googled to see who has the most followers and that person is Ashton Kutcher (http://twitter.com/aplusk), imagine that. While I was on his site I signed up to follow him. If I don’t like what he has to say I will un-follow him. It is that simple, I filter out what I don’t want to read and follow the ones that I want to read.
I use Twitter as a tool to be more efficient with my time. Find the people you want to follow and sit back and read what they have to say. Also contribute when you come across something that is new, interesting and exciting to you. Others may want to read what you have to say. I learn new stuff everyday through Twitter. If you haven’t started a Twitter account you should reserve one in your name. Worst case you find someone you like following and before you know it your sitting in that same meeting I mentioned at the beginning of this BLOG. Remember “Tweet, Tweet and enjoy!”
