I read a lot and I mean a lot of newsletters and articles each day talking about mobile and mobile video are the next biggest thing. I agree but it has always been tough to nail down time lines as to when mobile video would be considered a legitimate media by advertisers. Yes people have been advertising via mobile video for a while.

These advertisers are large corporations who have big budgets to experiment with a new media.  I appreciate it because eventually it leads to local and regional advertisers wanting to spend money via mobile video because these big companies have figured out how to use this media to be successful.   We see our numbers on WAP(Wireless Access Protocol; www://www.27togo.com / www.wymttogo.com) and iPhone Ap growing each month.  I have listened to talking heads screaming that mobile video is coming like Chicken Little clucking about the sky falling for years.  I knew it was coming as did everyone but now I can say we are here, mobile internet is no longer the new media.  By the way I hate the term new media.  The mobile internet has been around for a few years.  Calling the mobile internet new media is like calling a toddler a newborn.  For mobile browsing and we are past the term new media, we are close to moving from new media for mobile video.  The reason I say that about mobile video is today as I sat in the WC(Water Closet, if you’re not sure what it is just Google it) I watched mobile videos.  Not the first time but it hit me that I have been watching a lot of mobile video lately in the WC and other places.  This means my viewing habits have moved from trying mobile video to it being a part of my daily/weekly routine.  My son who got an iPod touch for Christmas watches as much video as we allow him to.  Last night he was watching video on his iPod next to me on the couch while I watched TV.  Mobile video is here and as long as I am in a 3G area or i have a wireless connection the experience is good.  Is mobile video ready for primetime?  No.  The reason I say that is because of all the people who I know, who are not technophiles like me, get frustrated watching mobile video because it doesn’t work as easily as turning a on TV.  When we get to that point we can move mobile video past the “New Media” lable.

Think about your mobile video viewing habits, have you started watching more mobile video?
