I spent three days in New York City recently and my AT&T iPhone 4 failed me. If you have read any of my previous blogs you know I love my iPhone. Now I know why so many people have complained about AT&T. I would bet that most of the people writing about AT&T’s service are from New York. I was in a 3rd floor conference room unable to communicate with the outside world. What did we do before smart phones? I couldn't get my email or make consistent calls. I would see all my bars with the 3G in the upper left hand corner but was unable to connect. What about WiFi at the conference? Yes we had it but it was as bad as my AT&T reception since 500 people were all trying to access as the same time. I could go to my room on the 28th floor and it was like being on the old Edge network. So I had to kick it old school and get my emails on my laptop via my internet connection in my room. I have bragged on AT&T, of course I have done from the comfort of Central Kentucky where the population density is much smaller. Now I know why the sophisticated folk in NYC have been complaining. I can only speculate that the number of people plus AT&T's notoriously bad cell hand off issues were the problem. Other people at the conference with Verizon phones were not experiencing the same problems. Note to self, if they can't get their 3G service working properly what can I expect from the upcoming 4G service?
