Interview Digital transition Expert – Mike Kanarek

Updated: 02/12/2009 - Last week I went on a rant about delaying the Digital transition. This week I am interviewing WKYT’s resident expert on the Digital Transition, Mike Kanarek. Mike happened to read my blog post from last week and he corrected some on the language I used so I thought why not lay it all out on the table and talk about what our viewers are facing. As most of you know the digital transition has been delayed until June 12th.

The Digital Delay is not a good idea!(My personal opinion, not necessarily a view held by our station)

Updated: 02/06/2009 - I can’t believe we are going to delay the switch over from Analog to Digital television from February17th until June. Why are we delaying the transition? Because our new President and our representatives on Capitol Hill think you, our viewers, are not ready. Once again our government is wasting our time and our money for no reason.

Ice Storm Refugee

Updated: 02/10/2009 - Day three with no power at home and I still can’t complain. Being a guy who has the “glass is half full” attitude, the only thing I can say is that this could be worse. My family and I are fortunate in that we have family who still has power so we have been living like refugees moving from place to place. In the past we would go out to eat and leave as soon as we were done, now that we are refugees we linger as long as possible.

The internet and its impact on inaguration day

Posted: 01/26/2009 - The inauguration last week was an historic day in America and it made me proud to be an American. We swore in the first black president and had a peaceful change of power. As much as the first black president is important so is the how he got elected and the tools he used. The election will mark how technology was used to get a politician elected to the highest office.

Black Friday!

Posted: 11/28/2008 - Well Christmas is here weather I like it or not. I love the name of the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday. It sounds sinister but the all it means is that retailers see this as the first day to operate in the Black. Some bean counter must have thought this one up. What happened this morning? The Alarm clock goes off at 4:30 am so my wife can join the stampede of shoppers who are looking for bargains and hard to find items.

Holiday Gift Guide – 2008

Updated: 11/30/2008 - It looks like the Holidays are upon us and it’s time to start shopping. I don’t know about you but I have a love-hate relationship with the holidays. I love the holidays because I get to spend time with people I normally don’t see regularly; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and sometimes out-laws. It is a time to gather and watch “Christmas Vacation” and hope no looks at me and calls me “Eddie”.

VOTE! The new voting machines in Kentucky do they save you time?

Updated: 11/04/2008 - So this morning I got up a little early so I could get to my polling place in Richmond to vote. I wanted to beat the long lines that have been predicted. I was there about 15 minutes after it opened and I still had to wait 30 minutes. I am not complaining especially after hearing about people who have gone to vote early in other states who waited for five hours.

“Spock, Beam me up!” – Bluetooth Ear Buds

Posted: 09/29/2008 - I have made fun of people with Bluetooth ear buds for years. My brother Eddie has had one stuck in the side of his head for as far back as I can remember. We will be driving down the road he will tap his earpiece and start talking. I see people walking around with these things in their ears and I think they look so stupid.
