One of the best high school football playoff games in the state is scheduled for this Friday at Boyle County High School in Danville. The Rebels of Boyle County are currently 12-0. They were victorious in the first meeting against Lexington Catholic during the regular season back on September 26th by a score of 14-11.

One of the best high school football playoff games in the state is scheduled for this Friday at Boyle County High School in Danville. The Rebels of Boyle County are currently 12-0. They were victorious in the first meeting against Lexington Catholic during the regular season back on September 26th by a score of 14-11. Dougie Allen and I covered the first match up of these teams, and predicted then that it would come down to these two teams again in November. Lexington Catholic is the defending 4-A state champion and is currently ranked #3 in the state. Boyle County is the top ranked team in 4-A.

Larry French, the Rebels coach has guided his team to a perfect 12-0 season to this point. Coach French does a tremendous job of keeping his teams focused at playoff time. Lexington Catholic Coach Bill Letton hopes the strength of his schedule pays big dividends in the 4-A showdown on Friday. The Catholic losses include St. Xavier, Highlands, Boyle County, and Indiana state champion powerhouse Bishop Chatard.

Nic Ward and Philip Mason will lead their respective teams at the quarterback position. Ward of Lexington Catholic was 17 for 30, and had 159 yards passing in the earlier game. Mason of Boyle County was 13-22 for only 69 yards passing. Rees Macshara led the ground game for Boyle with 88 yards and scored both touchdowns. Will Letton and Daniel Vogelsang led the Knights in receiving with 5 and 4 catches respectively. Ron Crutchfield had 4 catches for 20 yards and was the top receiver for Boyle County.

Defense is the name of the game in the first Boyle County meeting at Lexington Catholic. Grant Aumiller came up huge for the Rebels defense with two sacks and six tackles. Kevin Ebbit, Matt Bean and Ryne Least all stood out for Lexington Catholic on the defensive side of the ball. Hard hitting Jake Conner was in the Boyle County backfield consistently in that game for the Knights.

It’s my feeling that defense will decide this game on Friday in Title Town.
