The Class-A game pits Hazard against Beechwood. The Bulldogs upset the apple cart so to speak with a stunning 28-21 win over Lexington Christian last Friday. This win came on the heels of a 49-7 Hazard loss to Lexington Christian just a few weeks prior. Hazard is led by Tyler Olinger a strong armed quarterback, Greg Adams out of the backfield, and potential Division I player Michael Campbell at tight end and linebacker. Beechwood who seems to punch their ticket to Louisville every year is led by Nieco Teiple their do everything tailback. Bill Ransdell will join me for the radio call of this game.
The Class 3-A game has Breathitt County going against defending champ Louisville Central. Breathitt upset Belfry to earn its’ playoff spot in Louisville. Channing Fugate is awesome in the backfield for Breathitt. Central expected to get back to Papa Johns and indeed they returned to defend their title. Central is led by Mister Cobble a lineman who is headed for U.K. after his high school career. Steve Bertram will handle the call of this one on Friday at 3:00p.m.
The Class 5-A game wraps up the Friday action as Christian County a surprise finalist will take on 17 time state champion Highlands. Vashun Banks is the leading ground gainer for Christian County. The Bluebirds are led by Tony Guidugli at quarterback and receiver Austin Collinsworth. Christian County has a lot of great athletes and could give Highlands a scare. Dougie Allen will join me on the Rawlings/KHSAA Network for this one at 7:00p.m.
On Saturday December 13th the class 2-A game starts off the day at 11:00a.m. This is a terrific match-up between Newport Central Catholic and Ft. Campbell. This is also a rematch of last years’ title game won by the Army kids. Steve Bertram and Bill Ransdell will call this one on the radio network.
Class 4-A finds Bell County back in the title game behind legendary coach Dudley Hilton. Bell will take on upstart Bullitt East who is another surprise team to make it to the big pizza slice at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium. Bill Ransdell and I will broadcast the action in this one at 3:00p.m.
Trinty will go for state title number 19 in the 6-A Final on Saturday night at 7:00p.m. Simon Kenton is making their first ever trip to Louisville to face the Shamrocks. Miles Simpson of Simon Kenton has been a super-star for the Pioneers in the playoffs. Tim Phillips has found his groove for Trinity at just the right time.
If you can’t be there in person, join all of the Rawlings KHSAA Radio Network crew for all these exciting games which will be aired locally on WVLK-FM 101.5 and on the KHSAA Website at KHSAA.org
