Holiday Tournaments Abound

Now is the time of the year to take in some good High School Basketball games. There is an abundance of great Holiday Hoops Tournaments going on around the state. Here are a few of them that are definitely worth the drive, and price of admission.

Now is the time of the year to take in some good High School Basketball games. There is an abundance of great Holiday Hoops Tournaments going on around the state. Here are a few of them that are definitely worth the drive, and price of admission.

The Bryan Station Defenders of the Station Invitational includes some of the states’ top teams. Bryan Station will take on Danville with one of the states’ leading scorers Jacoby Taylor a sophomore averaging 26 points a game. On Saturday at 8:00p.m. Ballard, a top ten team battles Covington Holmes who is currently ranked second in the state. This tournament could culminate with a great final and could have Bryan Station taking on Holmes. The finals are scheduled for Tuesday evening December 23rd.

The Kentucky Bank Shootout starts Friday December 19th at Bourbon County High School. This excellent tournament has both boys and girls participating. The girls play on Friday starting at 6:00 with Paris and Anderson County followed by Bourbon County and Bracken County. The nightcap on Friday is between Bourbon County and Madison Southern in the boys division. Other notable games include Elliott County who is scheduled to play South Charleston West Virginia on Saturday at 7:45p.m. For Elliot County, the Faulkner twins, Ethan and Evan are certainly fun to watch. Defending State Champ Mason County is also playing in this Shootout along with fellow tenth region powerhouse Clark County.

Lexington Catholic is hosting the Republic Bank Holiday Classic which gets under way the day after Christmas at Catholic. Jon Hood will be bringing his high flying act to this tournament along with McCreary Central from the mountains. This has become a favorite holiday tournament. The finals for this tournament are set for Tuesday December 30th at 7:00p.m.

Include high school basketball in your holiday plans and get out and cheer for the high school team of your choice. And always watch the highlights of these games on Saturday at 11:30 am on the Scholastic Ball Report on WKYT Channel 27.
