The West Jessamine Colts Junior point guard Jarrod Polson had a weekend for the ages last week. Polson scored 87 points in two games, first against Mercer County and then Lexington Catholic. The most impressive performance of the two was last Saturday in the Colt Classic at West Jessamine. Polson poured in 51 points against the Knights who are ranked in the top ten in almost every poll.
Polson, who stands about 6 feet tall, is an aggressive player who loves to take it to the basket. His driving abilities sent him to the foul line for 37 attempts against Catholic, where he converted 30 for 37 at the line. What is even more remarkable about Polson’s 51 points is that he accomplished it making only 10 field goals. The final score was West Jessamine 102, Catholic 92. Senior Johnathon Rehner also came up big for the Colts with 24 points and 14 rebounds. However, few in attendance will ever forget the 51 point explosion by junior guard Jarrod Polson.
Under the direction of Robert Hammonds, West Jessamine has come very close to winning the Twelfth Region crown the last couple of years. Last year they barely lost to Lincoln County on a last second shot. Coach Hammonds is hoping their beefed up schedule this year helps them win this competitive regional tournament in 2009.
The Colts will be the “Team of the Week”, on the Scholastic Ball Report this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. on WKYT Channel 27.
