The Anderson County Bearcats are quietly putting together a super boys basketball season in 2009. Coach Glen Drury has led the Bearcats to a 17-4 record up to this point in the season. Mr. Basketball candidate C.J. Penney averages 22 points and 11 rebounds, and the Anderson County faithful are hoping for a deep playoff run in March.
Of the losses for Anderson three of the four have come from top ten teams. Those losses include #1 Scott County, #4 Jeffersontown and #8 Elliott County. Anderson County also takes on Paul Dunbar in a key late season match up. Their tough schedule will pay dividends come District Tournament time in late February.
Penney is not the only big gun for the Bearcats. Junior, Jacob Russell is pouring in 16 points a game along with 10 rebounds. Landon Jenkins is the top three point threat, and Will Ruggles plays at a fierce pace every game out. Anderson County will make a serious challenge for the Region 8 crown scheduled at Henry County High School.
Anderson County is the ‘Team of Week’ on the Scholastic Ball Report this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. on WKYT Channel 27.
