Tates Creek boys head basketball coach Wayne Breeden is building a foundation for a successful program one step at a time with strong fundamental play. Breeden stresses fundamentals in practice and it carries over to the games.

Coach Breeden has guided the Commodores to a 14-11 season to date, with an impressive opening round win in the 43rd District Tournament over Dunbar 58-47. Tates Creek is led by a pair of super sophomores, Marcellus Barksdale and Ryan Fucci. Paul Dunbar made a run early in the second half of this game and cut the lead to two points at 30-28. Those fundamentals including the ball handling and defensive play of Tates Creek quickly pushed the lead back out to 10 points. The Commodores were able to sustain that margin for most of the second half.

Coach Breeden will now try and take the next step as the Creek takes on Lexington Catholic in the second round of the 43rd district tournament at Dunbar. It was the Knights who knocked Breeden and his Owensboro team out of the Sweet 16 last March at Rupp Arena.

In his first year at Tates Creek, Wayne Breeden is making some noise in the 43rd district, and is well on his way to building Tates Creek into a solid basketball program, one fundamental at a time.
