The Tates Creek Commodore Baseball Team is having a great 2009 season under Coach Dom Fucci. Fucci is a fan of all sports and is a former high school Mr. Basketball in Kentucky. He has a love for high school sports that is hard to match at any level. The Commodores are ranked second in the latest Coaches poll behind LCA with Apollo in third place. Currently their record is 24 & 7.

In the past, I have called high school baseball games on the radio with Coach Fucci. It has always impressed me how knowledgeable he is about baseball, and how well he can teach it at any level, that everyone can understand. His gift as a coach is evident as his Creeker team has already won 24 games to date in a rain soaked season so far. Fucci transcends his knowledge to his players so well that they know how to compete in a seamless fashion without having to think about it.

I just wanted to take some time in my column to write about a great local high school coach who many people may not be aware of. Dom Fucci is a class guy with a big heart for all kids, and first and foremost his Tates Creek players. He says it’s the kids that motivate him to get up every day.

Kudos to Coach Dom Fucci of Tates Creek High School, one coach who really gets it!
