With the recent success of Justin Thomas of St. Xavier High School in Louisville on the PGA tour, many are taking notice about the quality of high school golf in Kentucky which is pretty darn good. Thomas recently made the cut in the PGA Tournament while competing with the best golfers in the world. Justin is in a long line of native Kentuckians making their mark in golf.

Kentuckian Kenny Perry is among the money leaders in professional golf today, sitting in fourth place at the time of this blog. Perry also teamed up with another former Kentucky high school golfer JB Holmes to win the prestigious Ryder Cup last year at Valhalla. It was Perry and Holmes who sealed the deal for the United States against the rest of the world. Another Kentucky high school golfer Steve Flesch has also enjoyed success on the tour, and is one of the clubhouse favorites in all of professional golf.

When you look at golf there is a history of excellence by those with Kentucky connections. Some of the states former notable professionals include Bobby Nichols, Gay Brewer, Jody Mudd, Russ Cochran, Josh Teater, Myra Blackwelder, Whitney Wade, and Ralph Landrum. These individuals have made their mark and represented Kentucky well on the world golf stage. Not bad for a little ole state like Kentucky with less than four million inhabitants.

In closing the Ball Report would like to congratulate Paul L. Dunbar junior Will Bishop who teamed up with professional David Eger to win the pro-junior portion of the Champions Tours-Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. Go Kentucky!
