High school basketball teams all over the Commonwealth will be glued to their television sets or the internet on Friday January 29th, at 1:00p.m. (ET) KHSAA Assistant Commissioner, Butch Cope, will have the enviable task of setting the field for both the 2010 boys and girls state basketball tournaments. Butch will demonstrate how the fickle finger of fate works, as he draws the 16 numbered balls from the hopper representing the regions, and matches them up to the time schedule on the 16 team state brackets. The draws are done separately for boys and girls, and set the stage for the official speculation to begin as to which team potentially could come out of each region. The Draw Show begins the road to the Sweet 16, even before all of the teams in the state have finished the regular season of play.

The Houchens/KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 will take place on March 10th thru March 13th at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. The Boy’s PNC Bank/KHSAA Sweet 16 will get under way March 17 through March 20th at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Louisville Iroquois is the defending girl’s state champion, with Covington Holmes as defending champion on the boy’s side.

WKYT’S Dave Baker will be the host for the Draw Show along with dignitaries from PNC Bank and Houchens Industries in attendance. Leah Wise Prewitt will break down the girls draw and yours truly will talk about the boys draw. Commissioner Brigid DeVries will be in the studio as well, to talk about tickets and the tournament in general. The Draw Show will be carried by WKYT, Insight and will be web-cast by Ihigh on the internet as well.

Tune in. You won’t want to miss it.
