There is no doubt which state has the best post season high school basketball tournaments.  It is Kentucky, known around the country for its PNC/KHSAA boys’ and Houchens/KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 Basketball Tournaments. It all get’s under way this coming Monday, February 20th with the District Tournaments starting throughout the entire state. This year should prove to be one of the best ever.

While many district tournaments have big matchups none can boast any better ones than the 43rd District Tournament here in Lexington. The rivalries are cross-town shootouts and the roof will be rocking over at Lexington Catholic next week. Let’s take a look at the pairings for this great tourney.

  • On Monday February 20th the girls’ action gets going at 6:30 pm., with Tates Creek and Lexington Christian Academy battling in the opener, followed by the Paul L. Dunbar, Lexington Christian Academy boy’s game at 8:15pm.  The boys’ game features two teams that have been ranked in the top 25 in the state during the year.

  • On Tuesday Feb 21st you can see the Lafayette and Paul L. Dunbar girls’ teams squaring off at 6:30pm.  The Dunbar girls are ranked in the top 10 this year. Later that evening the Tates Creek and Lafayette boys will play for a spot in the Regional Tournament in Richmond.  The Lafayette boys have had a statewide ranking at times despite a sub five hundred record. This should be another great night for the fans in the stands.
  • On Wednesday February 22nd the Lexington Catholic girls and boys are in an action packed doubleheader. The winner of the Tates Creek, LCA game will play the Lexington Catholic Lady Knights at 6:30pm. The night cap includes the Catholic boys taking on the Dunbar/LCA boy’s winner at 8:15 pm. Lexington Catholics boys’ and girls’ teams have been ranked in the top ten in the state all season.
