Top 10 High School Sports Reflections for 2010-2011

The following are some of the top high school sports stories that occurred over the past year. They are in no certain order of importance.

·         Trinity wins the state and national high school football championships, the first Kentucky football team to win at the national level. Bob Beatty is named National High School Football Coach of Year.

 

·         Rockcastle County wins the Houchen’s Industries KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 Basketball Tournament for the schools first state basketball title. Lady Rockets player Sarah Hammond is named Kentucky’s Miss Basketball and a McDonalds All American.

 

·         Christian County wins the PNC KHSAA Boy’s Sweet 16 Basketball Tournament in a double overtime thriller over Rowan County. The Colonels star player Anthony Hickey wins Kentucky Mr. Basketball honors.

 

·         Central Hardin wins the Kentucky National KHSAA State Baseball Championship, winning it in state record fashion with 21 runs in the title game.

 

·         Allen County Scottsville captures the girl’s state softball title, the Scotties first ever state crown in softball.

 

·         Lexington Christian Academy recaptures their 2010 state championship victory in the 2011Leachman Buick GMC Cadillac KHSAA Boy’s State Golf Championship in Bowling Green.

 

·         Ben Revere a former Mr. Baseball from Lexington Catholic is called up and is playing for the Minnesota Twins. Revere is a human highlight reel and is featured on ESPN sports center with his many spectacular catches.

 

·         Emma Talley repeats as the Leachman Buick GMC Cadillac Girl’s State Golf Champion. She is a true sportswoman as the young lady who self reported a wrong golf score forfeiting the state title a few years ago.

 

·         Hazard High School wins their first ever Russell Athletic KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl State Football Title by shocking Mayfield 24-6 in the Class A game, after losing to Mayfield in 2010.

 

·         Popular sports legends pass away leaving big holes in the Kentucky sports picture with the passing of S.T. Roach and Dick Robinson. They will be missed by all who knew them.

 

     These are just some of the many great high SCHOOL stories in what has been one of the best sports years in Kentucky High School sports.
