Posted: 8:03 PM The West Jessamine Colts Junior point guard Jarrod Polson had a weekend for the ages last week. Polson scored 87 points in two games, first against Mercer County and then Lexington Catholic.

Each of the six class champions will be crowned at Papa Johns Stadium, and all of the games will be carried live on the Rawlings/KHSAA Radio Network. I thought I would take a look at the big match-ups this week that are pointing toward the finals of KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl of 2008.

Posted: 9:54 AM One of the best high school football playoff games in the state is scheduled for this Friday at Boyle County High School in Danville. The Rebels of Boyle County are currently 12-0. They were victorious in the first meeting against Lexington Catholic during the regular season back on September 26th by a score of 14-11.

Coach Sam Simpson has the Blue Devil sights set on another playoff run for 2008. Ryle is their opponent on Friday and they are a good team out of the traditionally rich Northern Kentucky area. Henry Clay rides a five game winning streak into week one of the 6-A playoffs.

Posted: 9:10 AM In Class a Football the Frankfort High Panthers are having a great season under Coach Craig Foley. The Panthers are 6 & 1 and ranked #3 in Class A behind Beechwood and Raceland. The remarkable thing is that Frankfort is accomplishing all of this after losing all-stater and Mr. Football finalist, E.J. Fields who is now suiting up for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Posted: 11:12 PM Depending on who you talk too, this could be the best Mason County High School Football team ever. The Royals are ranked as high as #4 in the Class AAA poll in Kentucky High School Football. Royals fans are comparing this team to the great team of 2003 who was successful with quarterback Dustin Grutza and wide receiver Chris Lofton.

Posted: 9:06 AM Coach Steve Jewell has the Corbin Redhounds believing in them in this football season. Corbin is coming off an impressive win last Friday over Middlesboro by a score of 14-7. Coach Jewell said his team really came together in a tough win on the road. Corbin has always had a rich tradition in high school sports and now the Redhounds are off to a 7 and 0 starts in 2008.

Posted: 12:02 PM The Madison Central Indians are primed for a big run in football through Class 6A. Kenny Turner has the Indians believing they can compete with anyone in the big class. He certainly seems to have the players to back it up for 2008. Star Running Back Keyshawn Simpson is back after sitting out last year out with a leg injury, and Isaiah Cavanaugh returns as well. Central has many more weapons as this football season unfolds. Zach Coldiron is the new Quarterback taking over for Chaz Hope who graduated. Coldiron does a good job running the offense behind a huge offensive line. The O-line is anchored by all-state lineman Larry Warford at 6-6 and 300 pounds. Warford has already committed to play for Kentucky next year.

Updated: 9:17 AM Golf in Kentucky has reached a fever pitch with the recent Ryder Cup at Valhalla. This should translate into some very good State Golf in Bowling Green. The Leachman-Buick-Pontiac-GMC KHSAA Golf state Tournament gets underway next week and here are some random thoughts.

Posted: 11:00 AM My story begins as a kid growing up in Lexington. Living in the south end of Lexington, I played every sport I could at Cardinal Valley Park. My second home was in that park in the summer, playing Little League Baseball games until dark.
