Perry County cleaning up after flashing flood
Posted: 6:00 PM - Heavy rains caused major problems in the Perry County community of Big Creek, after flash flooding swept away cars and flooded an elementary school.
This week I thought I would spend a few minutes on safety suggestions for the spring and summer outdoor season; ADVENTURE TOURISM, as we call it here in the tourism industry! First, let someone know where you’re going and when you are heading out on your adventure. Take a buddy with you. It’s more fun with a group anyway! Camping is fine, just stick to the campgrounds or stake out a flat “ground level” areas away from cliff sides. Always place a typed-out index card, (keep it in your glove box) with name, emergency phone numbers, address and other important information about yourself on the console of your car while you’re outdoors.
Okay I have talked enough about all that…………on to some other tidbits……….This is Black History Month! Kentucky’s African Americans in the Military is a great event that will happen
the 19th (that’s this week ) plus lots more planned throughout the month!
Kentucky Crafted: The Market! at the Ky. Fair and Expo Center in Louisville, this weekend. It really is the best show of its kind in the US. Ranked so, by groups that know what they’re talking about. http://kycraft.ky.gov/
Plan your spring break get-always now. Go online at www.kentuckytourism.com to get ideas about what’s happening where. You’ll also find discounts and packages for Kentucky attractions! Contribute your suggestions by sending in your photos and events schedules when you know of cool tourism stuff going on! Just put them in the comment area!
