Perry County cleaning up after flashing flood
Posted: 6:00 PM - Heavy rains caused major problems in the Perry County community of Big Creek, after flash flooding swept away cars and flooded an elementary school.
Winter is gone! Can you remember a longer, more destructive winter? Seems like we haven’t seen the sun and warm temps in a year or more. Golf weather, lake weather, cookout weather, campfire weather….they’re all here or, at least just around the corner!
This past weekend I did some cool things, first I drove to Rupp Arena to check out the Boy’s Sweet Sixteen crowds. WOW! If this isn’t one of the best high school events of any kind in all of America I’d say show me one bigger and with more mass appeal! Then I drove over to Madison County to see Acres of Land winery, (there was a tragic fire). It looks like Lowell and the gang have hung on to the winery part and their inventory, however the restaurant, which was fast becoming an area hot spot was ruined. I hate this for the Land family mostly, but it’s a real downer for the Richmond area too.
I talked a few friends into (didn’t take much, ha ha) into taking their kids to the Louisville Zoo. The Zoo was celebrating Scotty’s 2nd birthday! Scotty is the baby elephant that the zoo has raised since birth. My friends called and said while they were there they ended up buying a season pass. They were shocked at how nice, clean and large the Zoo was. I told them it’s been there for years and I had been asking them to go since their kids were born. “okay Stipes, you were right” I believe they said. Remember, the Governors Derby Day Celebration is going to be a bit different this year! Because of the economic situation everyone is in, The Governor has decided the event will be less on the free and more on the interactive and family unit itself. I think it’s a great idea. There will be a first time Farmers Market, a huge area for kids activities and lots and lots of music. Food will be available for very affordable prices, so don’t let that scare you away! Come one, come all!
Who’s got some cool ideas for Spring? Send them into me at the comment area! Maybe you Know of a great event or festival going on that needs some publicity……here’s your chance!
