Okay, here’s what I did last week, but first; last year I remarked that derby week is the most fun time of the year, but it’s the most hectic and stressful period for me too! It starts about 10 days before the race and doesn’t let up until Monday after………….geez!
I am on the Derby Festival radio network committee, so we invited 12 stations from across the South/Mid West to broadcast their morning shows at the Derby Museum. We have Pat Day, Bill Samuels, the Governor, Kenny Perry and others come in and do interviews with the stations. Then my office entertains travel writers and film producers and sports people for the rest of the week. We take these folks to horse farms, distillery’s and other Kentucky places that we want to show off! The hope is, that they will write about, bring their sports championships to or, film their next production here. Can you say ‘taking advantage of a two minute horse race?” ha.
We went to dinner at Holly Hill in Midway one night, the group loved it. Quita and Chris Do a great job! We went to Claiborne, Adena Springs, Darby Dan and The Ky. Horse Park It was really special to see Secretariat’s gravesite at derby time. Humbling for sure!
Gotta pretty big list of hat’s off this week! In no particular order………..
Todd Cassidy
Jason and Deidre @ The Bear
Gator and Cricket
Bill Samuels
Rodeo @ Claiborne Horse Farm
