Let me start by saying yes I probably am a bit de-sensitized to many of Kentucky’s treasures. I have been promoting the Commonwealth’s tourism and leisure lifestyle for 25 years after all. (if you count my days in radio and TV news).
Been to every State Park, been to “behind the scenes” events at Churchill Downs and all of the distillery’s, know many master distillers on a first name basis, driven on the track at the Kentucky Speedway, emceed events with Muhammad Ali in attendance….you get the idea? Wait a minute….. Emceed events with Ali in attendance? Yes, many years ago at The Governor’s Mansion and an adjoining tent I had the pleasure to be MC and to introduce the “Greatest”! My point is this: we go here, we go there, we drive too fast and we don’t soak it in!
The other day Sonja and I were driving by the mansion and I remembered that event. What a beautiful building, I have researched the other 49 Governor’s residences; they can’t hold a candle.
This year marks 100 years for the greatest Governor’s residence in the country. You are encouraged to tour (when schedules and event notices are made public)
and to take pictures with your family. Really… make the drive to the Capital City and see what I am talking about.
Wonder what other tremendous treasures I have gone years without really considering their value and benefit to us!
Time to do some thinking!
