Former West Jessamine star Jarrod Polson finally has his scholarship.
After walking-on at Kentucky, the freshman guard has done everything asked of him, prompting coach John Calipari to give Polson an available scholarship for the 2010-11 season.
"As a young player, and I've had a bunch of walk-ons, he's probably the best. Skilled. Not afraid. He's going to be fine," Calipari said last week, before heading off to Canada.
Polson, who led his high school to back-to-back appearances in the Boys' Sweet 16, was invited this summer to participate in pick-up games on campus with UK players. According to his high school coach, Damon Kelly, Polson met with several UK coaches and was offered the walk-on role.
"He's worked hard this summer. He did what he was supposed to do," Calipari said. "He worked out with the guys. He played in the pick-up games. He came in and did his thing. We decided to scholarship him."
Polson played in all three exhibition games in Canada, averaging two points.
Those are the highlights... Stay tuned.
