Ky. to receive $6 million from online gambling case
Posted: 06/19/2013 - Gov. Steve Beshear says Kentucky will receive a settlement of more than $6 million from a case involving online gambling.
Samual Simpson will be a Wildcat.
During an afternoon news conference at Henry Clay High School, Simpson spoke of playing in the best football conference in America. “I want to play for the best fans in the country,” Simpson added.
It was an emotional affair. Father Sam, who’s the head coach of the Blue Devils, spoke about the sudden rise of Samual’s profile — Scout.com ranks Simpson as the top-rated center in America. “That just kind of floored me. I’ve been touched by it. I thought, ‘Wow. Someone thinks that much of him.’”
The younger Simpson said he chose the Cats over Vandy and Virginia. UK was one of the first teams to offer — his father said Simpson received more than 30 big time offers. But the 6-foot-4, 290 lb. Simpson decided he wanted to stay home and play in front of friends and family.
“I’ve always dreamed of playing Division-1 football and it would have been easy to take the first offer I got, a little over 14 months ago,” Simpson said.
His dad played at UK in the ’70s and says the Cats now are on par with the rest of the SEC. “Samuel had other offers from all these great institutions. It shows that Kentucky does compare with these other schools.”
So Rich Brooks and Co. reel in another big catch and the recruiting momentum continues. Over the weekend, the Cats got good news from Ryan Mossakowksi, a top-5 quarterback from Texas.
It makes sense to go out and get a center for that star quarterback. Looks like the Cats have their man.
Those are the highlights… Stay tuned.
