DeMoreo Ford is one of my favorite players on this UK team. He’s energetic and his outgoing personality is infectious. Thrust into a role this season as one of the Wildcat leaders, Ford eagerly accepted. But still, he’s been struggling on the field.
Ford has been battling a knee injury that required surgery earlier this year. To make matters worse, Ford admitted he’s had trouble the last couple of weeks concentrating on football. He revealed to us that his brother, Kendall Thomas, had been hospitalized and was in serious condition.
On Tuesday, we learned Ford’s brother, Kendall Thomas, had passed away.
Thomas, 23, and also from LaGrange, had heart failure. Ford said his brother was revived and rushed to the hospital. The family then was told Thomas had suffered brain damage. To make matters worse, Ford said, Thomas was put on a life support.
“He’s really struggling right now, but he’s with us. I thank God for that,” Ford said at the time.
Thomas died on Sunday. On top of all the other complications, Ford said his brother was battling pneumonia.
Rich Brooks informed the media Tuesday morning that Ford had gone home to be with his family. Brooks said Ford likely will not be ready for the Louisville game, given the knee and the timing of his brother’s death.
It’s blow to UK’s receiving corps, as it heads into the opener at Louisville. But here’s hoping Ford is back on the field soon. No doubt that’s where he’d rather be.
Those are the highlights… Stay tuned.
