Finally!

For all of us football fans needing a pigskin fix, Friday night provided just that.  The night marked the start of the high school season, which means college football is here, too.

Locally, story lines were abundant.  At Tates Creek, former Commodore Mike Harmon made his debut as coach, following his success across town at Lafayette.  Harmon warned us earlier that Campbell Co. would be a tough opener and despite the coach speak, Harmon was right.  The Camels spoiled Harmon's Creek opener, 31-14.

Bryan Station opened it's season with a matchup against city foe Dunbar.  The Defenders with a chance to end a 21-game losing streak to Fayette Co. schools, while the Dogs were trying to get back on track under new coach Jason Howell.  Bryan Station is a big, physical team and pounded Dunbar, 45-14, ending an 8-game losing streak to the Dogs.

Lafayette fell to North Bullitt, 28-21, in a rematch of last year's opener for both.

Henry Clay, LCA and Lexington Catholic kickoff their seasons on Saturday night.

The high school menu is the appetizer for the main fare, the college season, which gets underway this weekend.  Of course, around here, the big one is UK and Louisville.  With so many question marks surrounding both teams, the Cats and the Cards will be "must see" football.

For this football fan, it's one of the best weekends of the year.
