Beverage group: 18 mayors wrong on sugary drinks
Posted: 06/18/2013 - The American Beverage Association says efforts by the mayors of 18 cities to stop food stamps from being used to buy sugary drinks won't make the nation healthier.
The Thanksgiving weekend usually signals the start of the holiday season. Turkey day gives way to Black Friday and bleary-eyed shoppers, who venture out at dawn to snag as many deals as possible.

The upcoming holiday weekend also means members of the Big Blue Nation will be scurrying to one of several destinations, to see their favorite Wildcat team in action.
On Monday, Billy Gillispie's squad hosts the second round of the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Invitational Basketball Tournament. The Cats tangle with the Longwood Lancers, a school of 4,700 students, located in Farmville, Virginia.
The Wildcats then travel to Las Vegas for a Friday night matchup with Kansas State. Assured of playing two games while in Vegas, the Cats face either Iowa or West Virginia on Saturday.
If fans don't want to spend their weekend in Vegas, maybe they want to hit the Big Apple. Matthew Mitchell's squad travels to New York for the 6th Annual Long Island Turkey Classic. Hosted by Long Island University, the Turkey Classic tips on Friday and features LIU, UK, New Hampshire and Yale.
I'm certain a large number of faithful will converge on Knoxville, looking for tickets to the Phil Fulmer finale, where the Cats will attempt to knock off Tennessee for the first time since 1984.
The busy holiday schedule has broadcast members of the Big Blue Sports Network scrambling as well. Tom Leach, radio voice of the basketball and football Cats, will head south to Rocky Top. Neil Price, radio voice of the UK Hoops team, will head west and call games on the strip. Dick Gabriel will join the UK women in New York, where he will provide play-by-play for games at the Turkey Classic.
Dave Baker will do the sidelines reporting at the football game.
UK fans certainly have options this upcoming weekend: mix in some roundball with your slots or shopping, or watch the Cats try to break a long winless drought.
Or, you can join the thousands of shoppers locally, wait in long lines, then come home and enjoy leftovers with the fine voices of the Big Blue Sports Network.
Whichever you decide, it's going to be a Big Blue Thanksgiving weekend.
