Georgetown's Oldham to work "Granddaddy of them All"

Georgetown native Ben Oldham will work his 17th bowl game when Penn State and Southern Cal tee it up in the 95th Rose Bowl. Oldham will be the Rose Bowl replay judge that night.

Oldham, who served as athletics director at Georgetown College from 2000-2002, was a longtime official in the Southeastern Conference. Oldham retired from his on-field duties in 2000 -- his last game was the BCS National Championship game at the Sugar Bowl. Oldham was famously (or infamously, in hindsight) plowed over on a long run by Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick. The Hokies lost the national title that night to Florida State.

Since then, Oldham has stayed involved with officiating, serving as the SEC's chief side judge and chairman of the league's Executive Committee.

He spent 28 years on the field as an official, but of late has served as one of the SEC's main replay guys. The Rose Bowl will be his 11th major bowl game, and now, Oldham can say he's worked the four big ones: Cotton, Sugar, Orange and Rose.
