Perry County cleaning up after flashing flood
Posted: 6:00 PM - Heavy rains caused major problems in the Perry County community of Big Creek, after flash flooding swept away cars and flooded an elementary school.
Georgetown College. Transylvania. Kentucky State. Morehead State. EKU.
These schools, and others of similar size, generally aren't given the kind of media attention that the big boys (and girls), like UK and Louisville, receive on a daily basis. But certainly, there is enough interest in these schools and their athletic programs that outlets, like WKYT, cover as many of their games as possible.
Earlier this week, the Lexington Herald-Leader announced more budget cuts, code for layoffs. Sometimes called "small colleges," or, "mid-majors," these schools lost a dear friend, when veteran H-L reporter Rick Bailey was dismissed in the newspapers fifth round of layoffs.
Bailey started with the Herald-Leader back in 1964 and has been a longtime advocate for the smaller schools.
In this day and age of downsizing, the corporate ax has taken another friend and colleague. Now, the little guys, always in need of a big boost, will suffer the most.
Best of luck to Rick Bailey.
Those are the highlights... Stay tuned.
