UK coach John Calipari has said for weeks that he has begun the process of determining which players would stay and who would be leaving, in order to trim his roster and accommodate the nation's top-rated recruiting class.
It appears Calipari has decided three players will not return next season, joining Michael Porter, who gave up his senior season to concentrate on being a student and a father. It's an effort to get the Cats down to the NCAA maximum of 13 scholarships.
ESPN's Andy Katz is reporting that Calipari decided he wasn't going to cut players just for the sake of cutting them, unless there were issues involved, like academics, or if he felt the players weren't talented enough to play in the dribble drive offense.
Earlier this week, Calipari told 27 SportsFirst that it was important to get the scholarship situation done, allowing the outgoing players to find a new home, while trying to accommodate the incoming class and Jodie Meeks, who may or may not pull his name out of the NBA Draft.
Weekend news conference
