If there's one thing Landon Slone loves, it's being a Kentucky Wildcat. It was his dream of wearing the blue and white that led the Paintsville native to walk-on at UK, turning down scholarship offers to other schools.

If there's one thing Landon Slone loves, it's being a Kentucky Wildcat.  It was his dream of wearing the blue and white that led the Paintsville native to walk-on at UK, turning down scholarship offers to other schools.

Billy Gillispie brought Slone into the fold and the move galvanized a region of Kentucky that loves its basketball.  John Pelphrey and Todd Tackett played at Paintsville and later UK -- Slone now was part of that legacy of eastern Kentuckians who found their way to Wildcat lodge.

Gillispie loved the guard's tenacity and grit.  While not the fastest player, or most gifted athlete, Slone combines a strong work ethic with his heady basketball IQ.   Gillispie said he had confidence in Slone, who found minutes in 15 games with the Cats, including a season-high 25 against Florida Atlantic.

Slone admits John Calipari's dribble drive offense requires much more than he can offer.  Slone will talk with Calipari on Tuesday to discuss his future with the Cats, but knows his best basketball days now lie somewhere else.  He, along with his high school coach, Bill Mike Runyon, will visit Morehead on Friday.

Slone says his relationship with Gillispie has improved since the coach was fired.  There are rumors that Gillispie has an interest in Texas-Pan American and that Slone might follow Gillispie there.  Slone says Gillispie has indicated he will not coach this year, hoping instead to find a better situation.  At that point, Slone says, he might consider going with Gillispie.

But as with any kid from the Bluegrass, it's the lure of wearing the Kentucky jersey and Slone says he has no regrets.  Regardless of where he might be playing, he'll always be a Wildcat at heart.

Those are the highlights... Stay tuned.
